Alternative health for organs

I'm always looking for healthy natural ways to Prevent illness and stay healthy.  It's vitally important to keep your Brain, Heart and Lungs healthy.  Here are some natural ways to protect these organs, shared by Dr. Andrew Weil. 

Brain Health
Black Cod (butterfish, sable fish) – Brain health
Blueberries – Brain health (antioxidants)

Earthing (Grounding)

I discovered Earthing, and being grounded in the summer of 2011, when I went on my raw food diet (non-toxic natural journey), it didn't take long for me to discover grounding, as many sources of natural health place great emphasis on this proven necessity of living healthy...in spite of the medical community not emphasizing it as part of living healthily. 

It was so wonderful taking long walks barefooted in the summer, but living in Minnesota, it only lasted through the season.  However I did purchase grounding pads to connect with during the long hours I spend at my computer, and a grounding pad to sleep with as well. I don't sleep a single night ungrounded unless I'm not at home (however taking a grounding pad with you is so simple as long as the room you are sleeping in has a grounding outlet (the 3rd round prong in an electrical outlet). Because I live in an older built home, I purchase a cord to connect to the Earth directly through a metal cord in the ground because my room doesn't have grounded outlets (newer homes do)...and surprisingly it worked just fine to be able to close my window for the winter. However I can't wait for summer to connect directly to the Earth.

When I purchased my grounding pads they sent me the Earthing book for free!  It's an amazing read, and would highly recommend it to everyone (especially those who suffer from any pain, or have trouble sleeping and healing).

Mercury, Chlorella, Earthing

I loved this article, it touches on so many topics I have tried to highlight over the months in my blog, from mercury in fillings, to detoxing superfoods like chlorella to Earthing (grounding) etc. Once again Dr. Mercola was a guest of Dr. Oz, and every time this happens it gives more validity to the health information I try to share, as Dr. Oz, as a conventional Dr. validates the natural health information through his own research and testing.  not to mention it brings great exposure to natural healing and awareness of toxic dangers that the average person who doesn't seek out this information on the internet won't be aware of.  I hope Dr. Mercola gets to guest star for many more shows to come!

We talked about a number of interesting topics, but one in particular left the audience completely shocked...

Eggplant Cream for Skin Cancer

I started the show off with a discussion of skin cancer. Non melanoma skin cancer affects over 3 million people every year in the US alone.
This is more cases of cancer than all other cancers combined.
Fortunately there is a cream derived from plants in the Solaceae family of eggplant, tomato, potato, and Bell peppers.
It's called Solasodine rhamnosyl glycosides, BEC5 or Curaderm and is available online. It works by targeting a receptor that is only on the cancer cells so is very safe to use.
It is applied directly over the skin lesion twice a day under occlusion and treatment lasts about 14 weeks for most small skin cancers.
While eating these plants can be healthy it will not address the skin cancer as a glucose molecule needs to be attached and this does not occur during normal digestion. The cream is essentially a natural safe drug.
The cost is typically about 1% of the cost of traditional treatment and you can read more about it in an article I wrote in December.
The treatment has been around for nearly 200 years but, of course, has been suppressed by the conventional medical approach. While the cream is very safe it is recommended that one consult with a professional to make the initial diagnosis as one must be absolutely certain the skin cancer is not a melanoma as more aggressive treatment will be needed. Melanoma cells can spread to distant areas of the body and the cream will not work as it must be in direct contact with the lesion. If this happens the disease can be fatal. So if you elect to use this treatment you simply must see an expert.

Silver Fillings in Your Mouth Release Mercury

Most people are aware that mercury is a poison, but many overlook the fact that they have this toxic metal implanted in their mouth in the form of "silver" (amalgam) fillings. I explained on the Dr. Oz show that three out of four adults have silver fillings -- and the primary ingredient in them is mercury.
There are 1,000 mg of mercury in the average filling -- this is about 1 million times more mercury than is found in seafood, which is in microgram quantities.
Even the conservative EPA and CDC advise pregnant women to avoid high-mercury fish like tuna, due to the well documented adverse effects on fetuses.
Mercury is an incredibly potent neurotoxin; it doesn't take much to cause serious damage because it's an absolute poison. If you were to take the amount of mercury in a typical thermometer and put it in a small lake, that lake would be closed down due to environmental hazards.
Yet, amounts much higher than that are readily put into people's mouths daily, with many unaware of the risks. It's estimated that 75 percent of Americans are ignorant about the fact that amalgam fillings are actually 50 percent mercury. Worse still, every time you chew you liberate mercury from your fillings. Actually, almost any kind of stimulation can cause your fillings to release mercury, including eating, drinking, brushing your teeth, grinding your teeth and chewing gum. Mercury vapor from amalgams pass readily through cell membranes, across the blood-brain barrier, and into your central nervous system, where it causes psychological, neurological, and immunological problems. Children and fetuses, whose brains are still developing, are most at risk, but really anyone can be impacted. So, as I explained to Dr. Oz, if you have silver amalgam fillings it would be wise to take chlorella with every meal until you are able to have them SAFELY removed by a biologically trained dentist.

Chlorella Expels Mercury from Your Body

Chlorella, a single-celled fresh water algae, acts as an efficient detoxification agent by binding to toxins, such as mercury, in your body and carrying them out of your system. It is the chlorophyll in chlorella that makes it so powerful, as chlorophyll helps you process more oxygen, cleanses your blood and promotes the growth and repair of your tissues.
In one study, when mice fed methylmercury were given chlorella, they excreted approximately twice the amount of mercury in their urine and feces as mice not treated with chlorella.i This is important, as chlorella plays a particularly crucial role in systemic mercury elimination because the majority of mercury is rid through your stool. Once the mercury burden is lowered from your intestines, mercury from other body tissues will more readily migrate into your intestines -- where chlorella will work to remove it.

Chlorella is Only Digestible if it has a "Broken Cell Wall"

One important caveat you need to be aware of: chlorella is completely indigestible by humans, as we simply do not have the enzymes to break down its cell wall.
Unlike other green foods, chewing and digesting chlorella will not release the powerful health benefits contained within this green algae. This is because chlorella's tough outer cell wall, which is also chemically responsible for binding with the toxins inside your body, cannot be broken down by your biology. Therefore, it is imperative that the manufacturing process break down the tough outer cell wall for you, as this is the only way to make the chlorella biologically available to help remove toxins like mercury from your body.
This is why I only recommend supplementing with Broken Cell Wall chlorella, because this is the only form that allows your body to use this powerful detoxification agent.
Another concern when choosing your chlorella is to be sure that the source waters where it is grown and harvested are free of any contamination. Since chlorella is a natural green food, it will be affected by polluted water and will retain environmental toxins if it's grown in contaminated waters. So be certain any chlorella you supplement with comes from a naturally clean water source. One final consideration, mixing chlorella with the cilantro may enhance the detoxification benefits. If you have multiple silver fillings and are concerned about your body's heavy metal burden, this is a complementary strategy to consider.

If you are convinced of the importance of removing your mercury let me caution you to avoid the mistake I made. After being convinced of the danger by watching the 60 Minutes program on the topic 20 years ago (you can see the video below) I actually had over a dozen of my amalgam fillings removed.

I saw a competent conventional dentist but he was absolutely clueless about the dangers of mercury. As a result I had large amounts of mercury liberated improperly and I believe it was largely responsible for damaging my kidneys.

Avoid my mistake and see a biological dentist who is trained in properly removing mercury so it doesn't go into your body during the removal process. This typically involves the use of high-powered suction and rubber dams. One simple strategy is to ask your friends or local health food stores who these dentists are in your community, or you can also contact The International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine, which is the organization that created the video above.

Why Barefoot is Best

Many people realize while on vacation, how great it feels to walk barefoot on the beach. I have personally prioritized grounding myself to the earth as much as possible for over 5 years. The preliminary information confirms what I have believed for years, grounding yourself to the earth may significantly improve your health. The soles of our feet are the best contact to make with the earth, and will naturally discharge inflammation.

What does it mean to be left brain dominant or right brain dominant?

Scientists have explored theories about the two hemispheres of the brain and the ways that they differ in function and control of the body. According to recent research, people who are right brain dominant and those who are left brain dominant process information and respond in different ways.

Most theories suggest that right-brain dominant people are guided by the more emotional, intuitive right hemisphere while left-brain people respond in sequential, logical ways, guided by the left hemisphere. To a great degree, your personality is shaped by your brain type.

Your dominant brain type has a very significant affect on your study skills, homework habits, and grades. For instance, some students may struggle with specific assignment types or test questions, based on their specific brain types.
By understanding your dominant brain type, you may be able to adjust your study methods, and perhaps shape your schedule and coursework, to suit your own personality type.

 

What's Your Brain Game?

Do you watch the clock constantly, or does the bell surprise you at the end of class? Have you ever been accused of being too analytical or do people say you're dreamy?
These characteristics can me attributed to brain types. Typically, dominant left brain students will be more organized, they'll watch the clock, and they'll analyze information and process it sequentially. 

They are often cautious, and they follow rules and schedules. Left brain students are strong in math and science, and can answer questions quickly. Left brain students would make great Jeopardy contestants.

On the other hand, right-brain students are the dreamers. They can be very intelligent and very deep thinkers—so much so that they can get lost in their own little worlds. They make great students of the social sciences and the arts. They are more spontaneous than the cautious left-brainers, and they are likely to follow their own gut feelings.
Right brainers are very intuitive and have great skill when it comes to seeing through lies or tricks. They would make great Survivor contestants.

What about people who are right in the middle? Everyone is different, and everyone has characteristics from both types. Some people are very equal when it comes to characteristics. Those students are middle brain oriented, and they might do well on The Apprentice. Why? 

Students who are middle brain oriented can have strong qualities from either hemisphere. Those students can benefit from logic from the left and intuition from the right. That sounds like a great recipe for success in business, doesn't it?

1 minute Flax Muffin

Energy Boosting Sugar-Free Flax Muffin
With all healthy ingredients, no sugar, no gluten, no dairy, this is an amazing muffin! Takes 2 minutes flat to make.  I pretty much never use the microwave anymore...but I made an exception to try this quick dish.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup of freshly ground flax seeds (200 calories)
1 organic egg (60 calories)
1 tsp coconut oil (40 calories)
2 tsp cinnamon (12 calories)
1 tsp baking powder (0 calories)
1 packet of stevia (more for a sweeter muffin) (0 calories)

Total- 312 calories of energy

Recipe:
Grind the 1/4 cup of flax seeds. Add the cinnamon, baking powder, egg, coconut oil and stevia, then stir until all mixed.  Place in the microwave on high for 55 seconds, and your muffin is ready! I added some strawberry preserves for a succulent treat, but without it there is no sugar in this muffin! It's given me lots of ideas for future microwave muffins.

 All 6 Ingredients - flax seeds, coconut oil, 1 egg, cinnamon, stevia and baking powder)
Mix all Ingredients in microwavable Mug
 Thanks to my dome shaped mug...here is my 55 second dome shaped muffin!
I added some strawberry preserves to make it a sweet treat...and it gave me lots of ideas for my next muffin that will include dairy free chocolate sauce made with coconut oil and cocoa.

American Cancer Society

Here is an interesting way of sharing this information...it may be weird at first, but good information.  Disturbing, but information I have been reading about for a very long time now, that is quite angering, but good to be aware of.  This is one reason I am such a huge advocate for educating ourselves about nutrition and self curing through nutrition. 

It saddens me that billions of dollars go to the ACS, yet where is the safe cure after 60+ years and billions of dollars? Where are those funds really going? I would love to see where all those dollars given up by well meaning people are really applied to.  Why haven't they produced results (that don't include poisoning patients)? 

Dr. Max Gerson did, back since the 70s...why hasn't the ACS shared his information to safely cure patients?  Oh wait, the ACS is in bed with drug companies, and a cure would cause havoc on their profits.  If only true knowledge about this devastating disease was shared, then it would save the billions of dollars (that don't produce appropriate results anyways), and costing patients tens of thousands of dollars they cannot afford, to poison themselves to try save themselves. Sure purchasing something pink and overprices makes you feel good because you can say you support cancer. Running for a cure is great exercise but those funds raised can be put to better use! What you want to support is the cure, not cancer itself, and giving money to the ACS isn't creating a cure. Over 60 years has gone by, what have the billions of dollars they have collected really done for cancer?  It's heartbreaking being aware of this, but comforting knowing doctors such as Dr. Max Gerson existed, who shared with us how to cure these devastating diseases, as his family members have continued to share this life saving knowledge through the Gerson Institute and other such means.  

Don't blindly follow what is "popular" really Look at what you support and how you make your choices based on what works, and based on the true knowledge on the subject...this goes for anything.  Advertisement is the worst poison to our minds, and in return, to our lives.  It's shocking what advertisement of any sort will do and say to make a profit...appalling at best.  Don't allow yourself to be brainwashed*

1. Secret for Your Brain: Protect Its Memory Bank

The thought of losing one’s memory is frightening. Dr. Weil recommends Huperzine A, otherwise known as Chinese club moss, a natural remedy that may help keep memory sharp and ward off Alzheimer’s.

He also recommends Phosphatidyl serine (PS), a naturally occurring lipid that’s considered a brain cell nutrient. It may have positive effects on memory and concentration to help slow age-related cognitive decline. In addition, PS may reduce stress by limiting cortisol spikes.

Be sure if you take either of these to do so under your doctor’s direction.  
I have a special place in my heart for Niacin:p  It's a big part of the story to how I got onto my path of toxic-free, super-healthy, conscious, eco living.  It was the first Domino tipped that lead me to learn one thing onto the next, meet one health expert onto the next, that brought me to where I am today. 

3. Secret for Your Digestive Tract: Keep It Clean


Fiber plays an important role in maintaining a healthy digestive tract. In fact, countries such as New Zealand that have a low-fiber diet have higher incidences of colon cancer. Dr. Weil recommends eating 40 grams of fiber each day, almost twice the normal recommended amount.

Use this as a rule of thumb to obtain 40 grams of fiber:
  • 4 fruits (such as bananas, strawberries, blueberries, apples, peaches)
  • 3 veggies (such as kale, sweet potatoes, green beans, peas, asparagus, corn, broccoli)
  • 3 whole grains or beans (such as oatmeal, all-bran cereal, shredded wheat, lima beans, black beans)
If you are unable to eat this much fiber, take a supplement such as psyllium husk fiber, available at pharmacies and natural food stores. Be sure to drink it with plenty of water to avoid constipation.
Since I went on my raw food diet in the summer of 2011, getting my fiber has never been a problem, since my main food sources are plants and fruits.  It only took a short while for me to love these foods...so for me was not a hard adjustment to up my fiber. 

4. Secret for Your Immunity: Take an Antioxidant Cocktail
By strengthening your immunity, you’ll ward off common colds and reduce your risk of cancer. Dr. Weil gets his antioxidants from a multivitamin and you can too. Just be sure you are getting the right doses of each vitamin family. Go for a cocktail comprised of a multivitamin and COQ 10.

Mixed Carotenoids - 1.5-2 mg (3500 IU): Avoid pre-formed vitamin A, often called retinol, which can be toxic. Instead, you want to take mixed carotenoids, which are the pigments found in orange and yellow vegetables. Look for a combination of beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, lycopene, astaxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin.

Vitamin C - 60mg: Too much vitamin C can be pro-oxidant rather than antioxidant, so stick to 100% of your daily value, or 60mg. This important vitamin builds strong connective tissue, maintains arteries, and is great for overall healing. Avoid sweet chewable tablets of vitamin C, which are bad for your teeth.

Vitamin E - 30 IUs (20mg): This powerful antioxidant protects many parts of the body, including cell membranes and arteries, from free radical damage. However, it does have blood-thinning properties; beware of taking too much if you are taking any blood-thinning medications or supplements.

Selenium - 70 mcg: This important trace mineral has strong cancer-fighting properties.

COQ10 - 100mg: Coenzyme Q10 (COQ10) maintains heart health and protects muscles.

Be sure and take your multi and your COQ10 pill with an ample meal, such as lunch or dinner, to aid absorption.

Raw BBQ Kale chips

Raw BBQ Kale chips 
So light and crispy and flavorful..one you start you don't want to stop! And the greatest part about it is that it's a Super nutritious snack!

Raw BBQ Kale chips Ingredients 
  • about 1 bunch of Kale(I only used the big pieces)
  • squeezes of fresh lemon
  • dashes of Himalayan salt
  • drizzle of olive oil
  • 1/2 Red bell pepper
  • 1 cup of dates
  • 6 slices of sun dried tomatoes
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder 
  • 1 tsp of cumin powder
  • dash of cayenne powder
  • almond milk as needed (enough to make creamy)
  • 1 green chili
  • 1 tbs  Bragg Organic apple cider vinegar
  • blender


BBQ Kale chips Recipe
  • Soak the sun dried tomatoes to soften
  • Remove stem from Kale and tear to chip size pieces
  • Add the salt, lemon and olive oil to Kale and massage in
  • Put the rest of the ingredients into blender until smooth and creamy
  • Add almond milk tablespoon at a time until blends creamy
  • I scooped some sauce in one hand and massaged onto each kale chip as I placed it on the sheet.  Place each piece plat on dehydrator tray. Set it at 105 degrees for 6-8hrs. At 6hrs they were delicious and a little bit chewy, but I wanted this batch to be all light and crispy, so I left them for the full 8hrs. 
 All Ingredients (cumin powder not pictured)
 Massage olive oil and lemon juice into Kale and all ingredients ready to blend for sauce
 Sauce after blending...smells delicious!
Ready to go into the dehydrator...made 3 full trays

A typical day of meals, snacks, drinks and workouts
Drink
5:45am ~Glass of warm water with juice of 1/2 organic lemon
(as soon as I woke up)
Breakfast
8:00am ~Green Smoothie (makes 12 oz)- 1/2 cup blueberries, 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, 1 frozen organic banana, 1/2 tsp chlorella (has the highest chlorophyll content of all known plants...detoxifier), 1/2 tsp spirulina contains more bio-chelated organic iron than any other whole-food...nutritional), 1 tsp of freshly ground flax seeds, 1 serving True Whey vanilla protein powder,  ¼ tsp pure resveratrol powder, 1tsp MSM, 1 tsp Maca powder, 1/2 tsp deer antler velvet, 1 tsp goji berry powder, 1/2 tsp wheatgraa powder, 1/2 tsp pumpkin seed powder, 5 drops Fulvic acid, 10 drops grapefruit seed extract and enough water to allow it to blend together.
A powerhouse start to the day...and delicious too:)
~Juice of 1 orange
~ Cod Liver oil, digestive enzyme and
probiotic

~(vitamin supplements)




9:00am ~Green mint tea 

Drink
10:30am ~ Hot cocoa with Ho Shou Wu (herb-a general tonic for the liver and kidney)- I/2 tsp Ho Shu Wu, 1tsp cacao powder, half a mug of unsweetened Vanilla almond milk, half a mug of filtered water.
 
Snack
11:30am - Raw sweet potato chips with cinnamon (click here for recipe blog) Ate while making the kale chips.
Task
For 8hrs
~ Dehydrated some raw bbq kale (tomorrow's snack). Look for the recipe in tomorrow's blog. Put in Dehydraw to at 1pm and took them out at 9pm. They turned out amazing!

Lunch
12:30pm ~Kale, Broccoli and Quinoa with 1 boiled egg
 I used the kale pieces that weren't big enough for kale chips and used all the stems for my cooked meal...as the stems aren't very palatable raw.  I lightly steamed the kale on low heat until the steams were easy enough to eat. The flavoring was from some left over Chinese food (Broccoli in garlic sauce...which was a very delicious sweet sause with a little bit of a chili kick to it). I cooked the 1/2 cup of quinoa separately and stirred it in at the end when it was ready to serve.
 Every since I started eating cooked foods again, and brought back eggs into my diet I've been addicted to organic boiled eggs! So I sometimes include them as my protein. Just lightly sprinkled with garlic powder, onion powder, Himalayan salt and pepper. I boil the egg to keep the yoke as soft as possible for optimal nutrition.
My lunch kinda looked like a Sesame street character:p

Drink
1:15pm ~ herbal tea in teapot- I tsp yerba Mate loose tea leaves, 1tsp Chanca Piedra, 1 tsp hibiscus flowers, 1/2 tsp organic ginger powder (to have small cups of it throughout the rest of the day. Great way to stay warm, get your daily water intake with herbal benefits!
 
Workout~ 5:30pm-6:00pm
10 minutes on the re-bounder (little trampoline...warm up body), 20 minute interval running on the elliptic machine (30 seconds run fast, 90 seconds recover jog...repeat 8 times).

Snack
7:00pm ~ 1 apple


Drink
7:15pm ~ herbal tea from teapot

Dinner
8:00pm ~Raw chia meal (One of my favorite meals). Don't really know what to call it. I called it a chia breakfast, but I have it at any meal. I call it chia cereal, but it's not really a cereal, or chia dessert, but I have it for the main course, so "Chia meal" will have to do. 
I need to prepare it about and hr before I want to eat. I like to chill it in the freezer during that time, it becomes like ice-cream for dinner!

2 tbs of chia, about 2 1/2 cups almond milk, 1/2 tsp of cocoa powder, 1 tsp mesquite powder, dash of cinnamon, 1 banana, 5 prunes (cut in small pieces) Raisins or dates could work too, small handful of mixed nuts, chopped (almonds, pecans & walnuts). (Click here for Recipe Blog)

Gluten

Gluten: What You Dont Know Might Kill You

I've shared many recipes for Gluten free dishes, so today I'd like to share a little more information on Glutin, which will be self explanatory to why decided to go gluten free.  I don't know if I'm particularly sensitive to gluten, but having learned more about gluten, it wasn't hard for me to decide to give it up, given the many health ailments it causes, especially considering the fact that 99% of those with an intolerance don't know it, as they don't recognize the symptoms.

The Anti-Allergy Diet

Like Dr. Mercola, Dr. Weil and Dr. Oz, Dr. Hyman has been someone I hold in high regard, as his sharing of his knowledge about overall health and wellness has made a huge impact on improving my health. 

Today's question is whether hidden food allergies may be the cause of your weight gain. Mark Hyman, MD, has a 3-week anti-allergy diet to help get your system back on track so you can start shedding pounds. Although weight gain isn't the "only" issue a food allergy can cause, it certainly is one that causes distress.

You may be doing all the right things yet you are still unable to lose weight.  If this is the case, a hidden food allergy could be the culprit.
Dr. Mark Hyman, New York Times best-selling author an An advocate for functional medicine, supports groundbreaking research linking food allergies to weight gain.

Sudden-onset vs. Slow-onset Food allergies
Most people think food-related allergic reactions are sudden and fast acting – such as peanut or shellfish allergies which can cause immediate inflammation (an IgE immune response), resulting in swelling or difficulty breathing and can be life-threatening. On the other hand, dairy, which can be hidden in many everyday foods causes a far less acute allergic reaction, creating inflammation hours or even days later (an IgG immune response). Up to 60% of the population could be affected by hidden sensitivities to foods such as dairy.

I made the decision to give up dairy for awhile when I went 100% Raw (since raw dairy isn't legal in my state, or available for me). But my decision to remain pasteurized dairy free was validated when I learned more about pasteurized dairy products. I do however consume raw whey powder. I don't know if I'm particularly sensitive to dairy, I didn't pay much attention to its absence as I turned a leaf and went full on "healthy", raw and toxic free all at once, so all my healthy decisions were contributing to my well being simultaneously. But I've learned enough about it along the way to gladly giving it up. 

Dairy Allergy and Weight Gain
Foods with dairy can cause unhealthy bacteria to overgrow and produce toxins that cause systemic inflammation that swells the intestines and prevents normal digestion, causing weight gain, among other conditions such as irritable bowel. In fact, you can gain up to 30 pounds a year due to a dairy allergy.

Lastly, a dairy allergy is tied to inflammation in the gut, as opposed to lactose intolerance, which is an inability to digest the milk sugar called lactose.

The first step to finding out if a dairy allergy is making you gain weight is to identify both the main and hidden sources of dairy in your diet.

Hidden Dairy Sources:

Desserts: Cakes, muffins, cookies and chocolate may contain basic dairy ingredients along with “hidden” dairy derivatives such as casein or whey, both milk proteins. Be sure to look for these ingredients on labels and avoid them.

Deli Meats and Fish: Processed meats often contain dairy products such as lactose, casein and caseinates that act as emulsifiers or flavor enhancers. Meats labeled “kosher” will be dairy-free. Be aware that some brands of canned tuna contain casein.

Bread: Both white and wheat bread often contain casein, whey or milk powder. Freshly baked yeast breads are sometimes prepared in buttered pans or brushed with butter as they bake. Ask your baker if this is the case.

Energy Bars: Countless brands of protein and energy bars consist primarily of whey protein. As with all of the above, remember to read these food labels very carefully as well.

The 3-Week Anti-Allergy Plan

To find out if you could be allergic to dairy, follow this plan based on the 3 “Rs”: Remove all dairy, Repair your digestive tract, and Reboot your body.

Week 1: Remove All Dairy
Remove all the dairy from your diet for an entire week, which is how long your system needs for internal inflammation to settle down. Replace dairy milk with almond milk, which tastes good and has high quality protein and fat in it. In addition, replace butter with olive oil, a great source of good fat that contains oleic acid and anti-inflammatory properties.

Week 2: Repair Your Digestive Tract
If your gut is damaged by dairy, repair it with healthy bacteria found in probiotics. Choose a probiotic supplement that contains both bifidobacterium and lactobacillus bacteria. Select a product in pill or powder form that has 10-50 billion colony-forming units (CFUs) and take that amount daily. Week 3: Reboot Your Body
Now that you have a clean digestive slate, it’s time to reboot and see if dairy was causing your weight gain. Start by adding one dairy food back at a time and keep a food log of your body’s reactions. Ask yourself: Am I more tired? Am I bloated? Do I have fluid retention? All of these potential factors could be clues that you have a hidden food sensitivity to dairy.

If you think you’re allergic to dairy at the end of three weeks, see your doctor for a blood test, which can help determine if you have elevated levels of a certain antibody that could be causing inflammation. If you are indeed allergic, you can use the above plan stay allergy- and inflammation-free.
