Crochet Mittens 1 - Vintage White

 My first crocheted pair of mittens
Total time of stitching - 6hr for pair of mittens

· 5 mm crochet hook or H hook
· Bernat Blanket Yarn - Vintage White




Pattern:
ADULT MEDIUM (ADULT LARGE)



Ribbing – 13 humps

Ch 9 (10).

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 8 (9) sc at the end of this row.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, working in back loops only, sc in each sc across.

Rep last row until piece measures 6 1/2 (8) in. (16.5 (20.5) cm) from beg.

Fold piece in half with short ends tog.

Joining Row: Working through both thicknesses, sl st across short

ends to join last row to first row. Do not fasten

off.



Body

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, work 20 (24) sc evenly spaced around one edge of Ribbing; join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a st here and throughout), dc

in each sc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, dc in first 8 (10) dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next

2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in last 8 (10) dc; join with sl

st in top of beg ch - 22 (26) dc at the end of this rnd.

Rnd 4: Ch 2, dc in first 9 (11) dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next

2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in

next 8 (10) dc, 2 dc in last

dc; join with sl st in top of beg ch

- 25 (29) dc at the end of this rnd.

Rnd 5: Ch 2, dc in first 10 (12) dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in ne

xt 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in last 11 (13) dc; join with

sl st in top of beg ch - 27 (3

Thumb Opening

Rnd 6: Ch 2, dc in first 10 (11) dc, ch 2,

sk next 7 (9) dc for thumb, dc in last 10 (11) dc; join with sl st in top of

beg ch - 20 (22) dc and 1 ch-sp at the end of this rnd.


Hand

Rnd 7: Ch 2, dc in each dc and ch around; join with sl st

in top of beg ch - 22 (24) dc at the end of this rnd.

Rnd 8: Ch 2, dc2tog, dc in each dc to last 2 dc, dc2tog; join

with sl st in top of beg ch - 20 (22) dc at the end of

this rnd.

Rnd 9: Ch 2, dc in each dc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.

Rnd 10: Ch 2, dc2tog, dc in next 8 (9) dc, dc2tog, dc in last 8

(9) dc; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 18 (20) dc at

the end of this rnd.

Rnds 11-12 (13): Ch 2, dc in each dc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.

Rnd 13 (14): Ch 2, (dc2tog) twice, dc in next 3 (4) dc, (dc2to

g) twice, dc in next 3 (4) dc, (dc2tog) twice; join

with sl st in top of beg ch - 12

(14) dc at the end of this rnd.

Rnd 14 (15): Ch 2, (dc2tog) around - 6 (7) dc at the end of this rnd.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through

sts of last rnd and pull to close opening. Secure end.


Thumb

With RS facing, join yarn with sl st at side of thumb opening.

Rnd 1: Ch 2, dc in each skipped dc and sc in each ch of thumb

opening; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 9 (11) sts

at the end of this rnd.

Rnd 2: Ch 2, dc in each dc and sc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.

Rnds 3-4 (5): Ch 2, dc in each dc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.

Rnd 5 (6): Ch 2, (dc2tog) 4 (5) times, dc in last dc; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 5 (6) sts.


Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through

sts of last rnd and pull to close opening. Secure end.


FINISHING

Weave in ends
