11-Day Water Only Fast - Day 8

Dr Françoise Wilhelmi de Toledo, the Scientific Director of the Buchinger Wilhelmi fasting clinics, talks about the benefits of Long-term Fasting. She also explains the advantages compared to intermittent fasting. Buchinger Wilhelmi actively contributes towards international research on fasting and “real-food” nutrition: The research department led by Dr. Françoise Wilhelmi de Toledo and coordinated by scientific project manager Franziska Grundler is currently working on several major studies.

Day 8, I'm currently back to work, as yesterday was my last of my 5 days off, so I have 9 days of work ahead. 9 long days I may add. I work overnights at a group home with hours ranging from 10, 12, and 18 hours a shift. Surprisingly, I don't mind having to prepare and cook meals, in fact I really enjoy it, even though I can't taste any of it at this time. I joke (yet genuinely in asking) about offering to make my family a cup of coffee throughout the evening hours when everyone is home, just so I can indulge in the amazing aroma! I'm not tempted to consume anything, and have zero hunger, but still thoroughly enjoy amazing smells aromatic foods have to offer.

Unlike most of the days, I didn't do a lot exercise in any way today. My pup isn't allowed any physical activity for several days, so no morning walks with her for several days, and I didn't want to leave her alone as she's recovering, so no solo walk for me either. I'm not bothered by that, as the temps are freezing with strong winds and occasional flurries, and my fasted body is colder than ever. I did however make a point to move my body through the day, making sure that at least every few hours I stretch and do some pushups against the counter, and deep squats. Near the end of the day my thigh muscles were very sore! As mentioned before, I'm determined to conserve as much muscle mass as possible on this extended water fast.

I ended off my day with an hour in my infrared sauna, then after a therapeutic hot/cold shower, I snuggled into bed to watch some fasting and plant based sos free recipe videos (my new obsession...highly recommend the Plant Based Dads YouTube channel) with my pup for about half an hour until I headed off to work at 10pm.

To help me sleep I took L-Tryptophan to relax my body and Melatonin to help me sleep, and it worked great.

My weight this morning was 120.1lbs and 26.4% body fat.

11-Day Water Only Fast - Day 7

The Colonization of the intestine with bacteria plays an important role in keeping people healthy. In this Episode Leonard Wilhelmi, the managing director of Buchinger Wilhelmi Lake Constance talks with Dr Francoise Wilhelmi de Toledo, the scientific director of the Fasting clinics about the influence of fasting on the composition of the microbiome. The Buchinger Wilhelmi clinics published a Study on Fasting and the effects on the human gut microbiome in the Journal of Nutritional Science last year, which represents the scientific foundation of the discussion.

Day seven, as mentioned, I had a terribly night’s sleep on the night after day 6, but still managed to feel ok getting up in the morning and feeling good! It was just my luck that of all mornings, I had to wake up extra early at 6:30am to take my pup to a dental appointment, so right when the sleepiness was hitting me (after tossing and turning since 3am) I had to get up. But we move on.

Feeling great and energized, I took the time to get a lot of house cleaning and odd jobs done in the house...with no distractions from my adorable, needy pup!

I didn’t take an additional walk today, apart from my short half mile walk with my pup before her appointment, but I tried to keep moving, and my body and muscles felt great! I feel so much lighter and more flexible. Through the day I pick up some hand wights and do a couple of arm exercises, and several squats. Need to keep those muscles moving, even though my calorie expenditures is super low without long walks...but I'm ok with that, now is a time for healing and a lot of rest.

Even with the lack of sleep I had a great day, feeling as energized as I can expect to feel without any food in my belly. I do need to note that day I had a cup of organic herbal succulent tea. I thought I'd try including more herbal teas for the second half of my fast. To my surprise, not long after I had a very small bowel movement. This was shocking because I thought my colon was complete emptied after the morning of the second day. I failed to mention that on day one I took two portions of Coloson, a powder made up of a high dose of Magnesium that gently cleanses with oxygen, and it works incredibly well! It kicked in after around 12 hrs and completed in about 26 hours (morning of 2nd day of fasting). I used to use it when doing the Andreas Liver cleanse. In conclusion, I figured whatever succulent herbs that were in the loose-leaf tea helped my body pushed out whatever was remaining.

That experience was actually quite motivating for me to continue, as it showed my body was still in the processing of clearing out and detoxing to reset itself. Not that I'm lacking inspiration and motivation to see this to the end.

I have to day though, I didn't get in much exercise, however I figured my body could use a nice day of rest. When I picked up my pup at 4pm, she was coming out of anesthesia and drug meds from having her teeth cleaned and three teeth pulled! So, all I wanted to do was snuggle with her in bed so I could keep her happy as she healed. We then got up at 5:45pm and I fed her some food, then pretty much went back into bed to snuggle until I had to head off to work at 8pm.

So, all in all a very successful day, and week of water fasting!

My weight this morning was 121 lbs and 26.9% body fat.

11-Day Water Only Fast - Day 6

During the 18th International Congress of the German Medical Association for Fasting and Nutrition (ÄGHE), Magalie Viallon and Pierre Croisille gave an impressive presentation about immediate and longterm Multiorgans composition changes of a 14-days Periodic Fasting Intervention, documented via Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy.

Day six, another great day as far as energy and feeling really good. Started off my day with a short 0.65 walk with my pup, then several hours later when it warmed up a bit, I went for a 3 mile walk. My energy and spirits were up. My head is clear, no extreme fatigue or dizziness at all today, as the last few days.

My tongue is still very white on the sides of the top part and oddly still pink in the very middle, and mouth feeling dry, but sipping on water all day long.

I spent the rest of the day just doing a few chores and resting with my puppy on some down-time. I hopped in the sauna for another hour, then headed into bed to journal for a bit before bed. Lights off at 9pm.

I took a tryptophan pill to make sure I get good sleep, as it helped me the night before, but no luck! I tossed and turned and had a very hard time sleeping and staying asleep. So, I’ll switch to the Dr. Fung recommendation of pure melatonin. I tend to stay away from it because I noticed in the past that I would have insane nightmares on it, but I’m hoping tomorrow it will only offer me restful sleep!

My weight this morning was 121 lbs and 26.8% body fat.

11-Day Water Only Fast - Day 5

Talk with Dr. Goldhamer for FREE about how diet and fasting can benefit your health at https://www.healthpromoting.com/

Day five was another great day, with ample energy. I went for a 2.36 mile walk with my dog and came home to rest for 2hrs before going on a 3.8 mile walk on my own. I felt very energized, with that weird contrast of weakness, but no headaches, dizzy spells or anything to disrupt my day.

I felt great from start to finish. Nothing else too significant to report on this day, it was similar to the last. I did find myself bored at one point and had the urge to cook dinner for my parents. I didn’t have any cravings to eat it, but just wanted to do something different and active to break up my day.

I then ended my day with an hour in my infrared sauna before my bedtime routine of reading and writer in my journal.

All in all, a fantastic day!

My weight this morning was 121.4 lbs and 27% body fat.
